This week was a huge milestone for me because I hit my 34th podcast interview and I had the privilege of interviewing one of our greatest sales podcasters in the world.
These are the top ten things I learned from my conversation with Scott.
- Fulfill a need– Scott was curious about speaking with the top reps of companies and saw that there weren’t enough quality long-form sales podcasts out there who interviewed only the top 1% so he created his own podcast to scratch his own itch.
- You have no choice but to improve when you surround yourself with the best. That’s why he created the Sales Success Summit because he knew that like-minded people would want to get together. Those who are willing to pay out of their own pockets money to travel to a different state to get together with other sales professionals who are serious about improvement and learning from others.
- Diversity in sales and ideas– Getting together all of these different opinions and minds you learn so much and get to exchange ideas to help each other out. There was such a variety of thought leadership ranging from every professional in a sales person’s lifecycle at the conference.
- Create a Wow experience and you will create a community that will last a lifetime.
- Adopt a beginner’s mindset– that’s what separates the best from everyone else. The best of best know that they have so much more to learn.
- We all have imposter syndrome at some point in life but all have so much to share. Don’t be afraid to step up and own your own greatness every once in awhile. We all started somewhere.
- Always be curious and Invest in your well being– Not only is he a full-time quota-carrying sales professional but he is also a triathlete.
- Create the community and the business will follow if you are bringing people together.
- Have an amazing product first before instead of coming up with ideas. Anyone can come up with an idea but building the following is the hard part.
- Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. I was so afraid of looking bad but then I realize everyone makes mistakes. Its when I am uncomfortable and every podcast episode I am still uncomfortable because when you relisten to yourself on a podcast, its always nerve-wracking but that’s when you grow and have more awareness around what you actually sound like. Having mentors like Scott helps push you and holds you accountable to what you say you are going to do.
